“But the very same plan to the Beaver occurred:

It had chosen the very same place:
Yet neither betrayed, by a sign or a word,

The disgust that appeared in his face.”

Behind The Scenes
First appearance The Hunting of the Snark

The Beaver is one of the characters in Lewis Carroll's nonsense poem, The Hunting of the Snark. In the poem, he is one of the ten members of the crew who cross the sea, arrive in a strange land and go hunting for Snarks. On the hunting trip, the Beaver, who had previously being wary for the Buthcer's specialty in preparing beavers, becomes fast friends with him. During the trip, the Banker also made an absurd offer to protect the Beaver from being butchered by insuring it against fire and hail. In the end, the Beaver goes with the other members of the crew after the Baker has called them because he had found a Snark.

  • The Beaver is the only animal member of the crew.
